Breaking Through Barriers
Breaking Through Barriers is the re-entry program of the Oakland Private Industry Council. We understand the challenges returning citizens face when they come home and want to work with you and your parole officer or any other accountability entities to support your successful transition home. Experience has taught us that gainful, steady employment, skills training, and stable housing are pillars to successful re-entry. We want to work with you to navigate social service systems and services and provide you with the skills and support needed to thrive, leveraging this fresh start. You are eligible for this assistance and support if you are 18-35, on probation or parole and have been justice system involved or the victim of gun violence.
Oakland Private Industry Council offers these services:
- Career coaching
- Job placement
- Occupational training (Class A training/Pre-Apprenticeship in Construction)
- Support Services (housing, mental health, transportation, work-related tools and materials)
- Paid work experience
- Computer skills Boot Camp
- Financial literacy and wellness training
- Pre-employment workshops/Soft skills training
- Resume development and interview preparation
